Cougar Monitoring To Launch Biometric Vehicle Security System

fingerprint_scanner_Premiere security company Cougar Monitoring is to launch a unique and highly sophisticated new biometric vehicle security system this month which looks like it came straight from the latest 007 film.

An immobiliser which uses biometric technology to recognise the driver’s fingerprint is fitted to the car dashboard and will only let the driver start the vehicle with the ignition key once it has recognised their fingerprint.  The system also contains an emergency system which the driver can activate discreetly to alert Cougar’s monitoring station that they are being made to start the vehicle under duress by a thief or kidnapper. Staff at the monitoring station can then alert the police, provide the vehicle’s position and reduce the fuel to its engine, either to slow it down or even stop it altogether.

Additional features can include DNA system which can link a criminal to the stolen vehicle months after the event. CCTV can also be fitted to the vehicle to remotely monitor the thieves, and the vehicle’s doors can be remotely locked and unlocked by the staff at the monitoring station.  If that weren’t enough, sirens can be fitted which can be remotely activated to create an intolerable noise level in the car.

“Current vehicle tracking systems are fine as far as they go but they are post event,” says Martin Dews, Cougar’s Business Development Officer.

“Quite often there is a long delay between the time a vehicle is stolen and the owner realising it has been, by which time it could be on a container ship bound overseas. The emphasis with our system is that it is about prevention. It makes it much more difficult for a vehicle to be stolen, but in the event that it is taken with the driver present he or she now has a discreet way of contacting Cougar’s monitoring station and for the situation to be resolved quickly and safely.”

Established in 1996 by two senior ex-police officers, Cougar Monitoring has grown into a premier supplier of security solutions with over 8,000 customers in the UK. It provides a "one stop shop" for security and in addition to manned guarding provides state-of-the-art monitored CCTV equipment, key holding, emergency response, and mobile patrols.
